Backchannel — Don Jax Morrow

Every conversation in a Backchannel lounge is heard by more than the table next to it.

Underground information tradeNeon Mile

Origin story

Morrow kept the books for a small club on the Mile years before Kira Nox started buying up the strip, and noticed something the club owners never did: the richest, most dangerous people in the building never did business on the dance floor. They did it in the quiet booths behind it. Whoever controlled those booths knew more than whoever owned the building.

Backchannel isn't a rival to Velvet Circuit so much as its shadow — VIP lounges and concierge services that sell luxury on the surface and listen underneath it. Hosts, drivers, bartenders, all quietly feeding information back to Morrow about who's meeting whom and what they're hiding.

Patience is the whole method. Morrow rarely makes a first move, waiting instead until whatever the network has gathered makes the outcome obvious before anyone else even sees the play coming.

Character

Morrow talks quietly in a district built on noise, which somehow makes people lean in closer instead of tuning out.

Notable moments

  • Built a network of "concierge" informants inside every major club on the Mile
  • Exposed a betrayal inside Velvet Circuit before it reached Nox — buying years of goodwill
